Children need many experiences with open-ended, unstructured materials (sand, water, art supplies) and result-oriented, structured materials (board games, Montessori math materials, puzzles) in order to develop an authentic foundation for language, math on paper, abstract concepts and theoretical thought founded in the reality of earth.
